18th April - Fladbury inspection after 3 months of floods

The Secretary went for a walk to have a look at the extent of the damage caused by the floods. It was a glorious day, the river looked great, a little boily and pacey but very fishable with a nice colour, the river has gone down very quickly over the last week. Platforms 5, 6 and 7 were just under water.

It looks as if no further work had been completed in the field, trailers and digger havn't moved, no further fencing or livestock and the combination lock was as before. With the ground quite firm the Secretary was able to drive in the field.

Amazingly, all of the pegs looked good, pegs 17 to 22 had debris, peg 18 by far the worst as usual, been much worse in the past, would only take a couple of hours to clear.

With 8 sets of steps to complete the Secretary counted 41 slabs stored behind peg 2, that's almost enough to complete all 8, but we are desperately short of poles, the plan is completion by the 16th of June.

14/4/2018 - 1st Spring League Match - TBF Canal Pool

Eleven turned out we had pegs 1-18. Weather was dull and mild at first and towards the end of the match the sun finally shone. DO again drew the big Bonus Peg, DH had the current Bonus Peg.

Carp where not in every peg and four didn't bother to weigh. The match was one in peg 2 by CF fishing on the far shelf feeding micro's with 6mm expanders on a 16 hook. He caught quality fish for 74-10-0 losing a couple and foul hooking one or two. DD was second with 38-6-0 from peg 17. FB 1n peg 1 caught in the left corner margin weighing 38-4-0 but struggled with smaller F1's and with spells of no bites.

Next Match;- 29/4/2018 at Lower Park Fishery on "Park" Pool.

7/4/2018 - 2nd Aggregate match at BAA Alvechurch Br. 62-64

DO and DD pegged out using either side of the dead arm that's Br. 62 to the dead arm and the new stretch, dead arm down to the Motorway Br. 64. We pegged 9 in the old and 2 in the new stretch but that included 3 pegs around the wides. Weather was wet at the start but quite mild. Peg 6 was drawn for both Bonus Pegs.

No surprise that the first 4 came from around the wides. DJ was catching from the off, BB was catching quality hybrids, FB was struggling in the mouth of the dead arm, KK found skimmers on the end peg just inside the new stretch. Most caught early, seemed to switch off after three hours, some packed up early.

Result-BB with 5-7-0, DJ had 4-15-0 on the point and KK was third with 3-15-0. FB took the last prize with 3-6-0 after a bite less last two hours.

After two matches we have FB & KK on seven, HP & BB on 9 points.

Next Match;- TBF Canal pool 14/4/2018.

NEW - Club Records Chart

Note new "Club Records" chart, that's "Members Page"/ "Full Members"/ "Club Records".

The chart has been put together after studying results going back to 2003, have a look and give the Secretary a call with any amendments.

24/3/2018 - 5th Winter Pools at Barston Lake

DO couldn’t be caught, after sorting out the pegs with Mark we trekked to pegs 37-61. 11 turned out, weather was damp but mild. FB was off like a train straight away catching Ide and Roach and a good skimmer on double red Pinkies then slowed, PW had six good skimmers. PF and DH caught skimmers in the last hour and a half.

At the weigh in PF had 19-1-0 of mainly skimmers, DH came on late with skimmers for 15-3-0. A late proper Bream saved FB with 13-15-0, fourth was HJ with 10-4-0.

Series result;- DO settled this after four matches finishing with 7 points. PF had 13, FB had 18 points, well done guys that's the first "Winter Pools" series complete.

Nice to see our Chairman Dave Mullins who has been struggling a bit lately, he popped down for a chat, see you on the bank soon.

Next match is the 2nd "Aggregate" match on the Bham-Worc. Canal at Alvechurch 7/4/2018.

After that we have the start of the "Winter League" at TBF Canal Pool on the following Saturday 14/4/2019.

DRAW DETAILS;- Final "Winter Pools" Match at Barston Lake

The fifth and final "Winter Pools" match on 24/3/2018 is at Barston Lake and we have been given pegs 39 to 61. From the car park that stretch starts in the middle of the right bank beyond the island, that's a good walk so bring your trolley.

We have decided to draw on the bank around peg 37, you need to be on the bank, ready to draw before 9am so the advice is to arrive in the car park around 8.15am. If you are going to be late call the Secretary before the draw on 07989 566219.

The Secretary had a look at the pegs in the week, peg 39 is just after the island and peg 61 is under the cables well before the corner.

You will need two nets, one for Carp & one for Silvers.

Don't forget, pellets or Carp baits are out. It's Maggots, Castors, Worm, Punch and Corn only, coarse fish ground bait and liquidised bread is also ok to use.

See you on the bank.

10/3/2018 - 4th "Winter Pools" on Big Gearies pegs 7-30

The fourth in a series of five matches with Darren Onley needing one more good result. We spread out using pegs 7 - 30, weather was wet but mild. With Carp and skimmers to go for it was DJ on peg 23 that found 58-6-0 of Carp at 13mts on single maggot with a couple over 10lb, second was BC who found 16-4-0 of Bream at 6mts mainly in the last hour catching on maggot with regular ground bait. Third was DO with 10-8-0 of Bream and Skimmers, fourth was PF with 9-2-0 on the long pole. Those that decided to go for the Bomb struggled.

Next Match;- DO cannot be caught but the last match on 24/3/2018 is at Barston pegs 39-61. That's a fair walk so be early as we will be drawing on the bank (not the car park) at 9am.

Vote to return to an 8am draw in the summer matches;-

With 11 votes for and 2 against (one vote to come) it's an overwhelming vote to return to the summer draw times of 8am during June to September. This applies to this season the venue list has been amended.

"Last Chance Fladbury Open" 11/3/2018 - "NO CHANCE"

It's Thursday morning and the Avon looks about 3 to 4 feet on and roaring through following the "Beast from the East". The snow water and rain is still going in and there's rain and snow expected today and more rain Friday and Saturday. John Blakemore lives near to the Avon and he says "no chance".

Sorry Guys we have to call it off.

We do have a match this weekend Saturday 10th March

We are at Packington on "Big Gearies" expecting a wet day but 11 degrees C. We are on the high bank pegs it's Carp and Skimmers, should be a good turnout there's also two Bonus Pegs, 9am draw fishing 10am-3pm.

24/2/2018 - 3rd Winter Pools at Lavender Hall

The third in a series of five matches, we decided to switch to "Ben's Pool" resulting in a very strange February match. Weather was windy, cold and bright. DO had won the first two matches and was off like a train again chucking the bomb to the middle catching Carp from a peg on the middle of the far bank. HP in opposite peg 6 was catching on the feeder. It seemed like the Carp were shoaled up in the middle of the pool.  FB next to DO had no bites on the pole or feeder and after three hours switched to the bomb and started catching Carp on double reds on a 16 hook. Apart from the three catches there were odd fish for some, PF in the corner had one fish a Carp at 10-3-0, he drew the current BP, DJ drew the big BP, both in corner pegs.

Result;- HP 92-8-0, DO 64-0-0, FB 23-8-0, an incredible February Match.

Next Match;- Packington "Big Gearies" 10/3/2018 followed the day after by the "Fladbury Last Chance Open" Sunday 11/3/2018.

10/2/2018 - First Aggregate Match at BAA Pensham

The first match after the AGM is the first Aggregate match at BAA Pensham. 8 turned out on this deep water venue downstream of BAA Pershore RB. The river has been up since Christmas and only dropped a week before the match. BB, HP and JB pegged out, we had meadows 1, 2 and 3 so plenty of room. There was a big "capped" Bonus Peg from last season and a new one starting today. Weather was atrocious, gale force winds and rain all day. FB drew the big one and DD drew the new BP.

Result;- HP won with 4-12-0 of Chub with the better samples arriving late from "long walk" peg 8. JB also caught in the last hour with 4-4-0, third was FB with 3-15-0 of mainly skimmers. DD and KK tied for fourth with 1-14-0. Everyone did exceptionally well on an awful day.

Next Match;- 3rd Winter Pools at Lavender Hall 24/2/2018.

Next Aggregate Match;- 7/4/2018 at Alvechurch Br. 62-64.

John Austin (9/2/2018)

John has decided to move back down Kent. While a member John was always polite and helpful, a nice guy. The Society wishes him all the best and keep in touch.

25/1/2018 - Post AGM AOB notes

AOB1 - Sale of Rights - see notices

The AGM decision to sell outright and relinquish all rights to the island was predictable because we had years of no access and were not able to secure parking. We now kick off the legal process and consecutively register Fladbury Left Bank fishery with the Government Land Registry Office. A long term frustration for the Society has ended and in exchange we will have legal and financial security at no cost to the Society.

In the early days of negotiation the Committee had two choices to pursue a sale or protect our heritage and we wondered if we were doing the right thing for the membership in continuing with the sale. We included the option for status quo but the overwhelming vote to accept option 3 vindicates the Committee decision to pursue a solution. What we do with the windfall is a discussion for the future.

AOB2 - Prize Money on Pools Matches - see notices

The re-formed committee have put this long term anomaly right at their first opportunity. This was not possible in the earlier regime and the committee determination to have no divisions in the Society and the increase in revenue from Associate membership has made this possible. Now all members are treated equally, no divisions.

The ability to maintain this level of prize money is dependent upon "Level of Membership" and having all Fladbury pegs fishable is now equally important to all members.

AOB3 - Back to 8am summer draw - DO

The membership discussed reverting back to the summer early draw time of 8am and wondered why it was changed.

The meeting agreed to hold a vote on the bank allowing all members to have their say.

AOB4 - Allowed to switch pegs if double banked - SM

The members discussed allowing anglers to switch pegs on arriving at your peg and finding that you are double banked, this was agreed at the AGM. Double banked before the whistle is now deemed cause to switch pegs and when it occurs talk to a committee member.

Concern;- There was concern that it needs clarification in how this would affect the Bonus Peg, clearly we need a Match Rule revision but this needs further discussion at the May 2018 committee meeting before we can update the match rules.

22/1/2018 - A Few Reminders

AGM - Wed. 24th January - At the Sheldon Ivy Leaf club 8pm.

There is a couple of major changes, you have all had a summary, we need you there to vote on the sale of fishing rights to Fladbury Island, all full members can vote.

The second change to be announced at the AGM, If you can't make it let us know.

If you want to get it of your chest now's the time to contact the committee and we will then raise your issue in "Any Other Business".

Now is a great time to join the Society, does anyone have family or friends that want to join us?

Don't forget this year we pay Aggregate prize money at the AGM, that should pay next year's subs, membership cards will be available.

Who won the most pools last year, bet you can't guess?

Next Match is the 10th February at BAA Pensham

It's the first Aggregate match, have you got your new BAA card yet?

Does anyone need directions?

As usual, call the Secretary if you plan to turnout.

Next "Winter Pools" match is at Lavender Hall on 24th February

We have booked "Dragon Pool", this may change dependent upon conditions on the day. We have to stop Darren Onley running away with it.

20/1/2018 - 2nd Winter Pools Match on Gratuities

Back at Gratuities for the second "Winter Pools" match. Eleven turned out on this 16 peg pool and we used road side pegs 1&2, 4&5, 7&8, and far side pegs 9&10, 12&13, 15&16, except when we arrived peg 7 was unfishable and H. Potter dropped into undrawn peg 16. There was a surprise when we started to plumb when we realised the far side of the swims were frozen and covered with recent rain. We tackled up in the rain which turned to sleet and the last three hours was a snow storm and bitter cold. Most could only fish the pole short although the winner in corner peg 8 had no ice and the only one to catch Carp.

Result;- DO weighed 10-0-0, two Carp plus bits, DD was second in peg 4 with 2-14-0 feeding heavy in the last hour. Third was HJ 2-7-0 and fourth was PF with 2-6-0.

With DO winning the first two matches we are all playing catch up.

Next up is the AGM on the 24th January at the Sheldon Ivy Leaf at 8pm, see you there.

Next "Winter Pools" match is at Lavender Hall on 24/2/2018.

2018 Winter Pools Match Series- Allowed Baits

Following a pre match discussion we have agreed on what constitutes "Natural Baits", this is now within the Society's "Match Rules" see section 5.4.2.

Allowed;-

Maggots, Castors, Worms and Corn. You can use liquidised Bread, Bread Punch and Ground Bait if allowed by the fishery.

Not Allowed;-

Boilies, Pellets, Paste, Meat and Flavourings.

Remember last Season;-  We voted to allow Carp in the 2018 "Winter Pools" series using natural baits. The Logic behind this was that especially in the January matches we were returning Carp and registering a dry net. To resolve this we allowed Carp but we didn't want to turn this match series into another Carp series. You know that if you could use Carp baits in the later matches it would be similar to the "Spring League", hence the list of acceptable baits. These were discussed and agreed before the start of the first 2018 match, so that's the format for this season. Let's see how it goes, it will be reviewed for next season.

Next Winter Pools Match is at Packington Gratuities on the 20th January. Commons, Crucians and Bream to go for if they decide to turn up.

6/1/2018 First Winter Pools Match

We go again on in 2018 with the start of a re-named match series "Winter Pools" previously "The Silver Fish League".

This time around we allow Carp using natural bait like Maggots, Castors, worms and Corn with Ground bait, Liquidised Bread and Bread Punch where allowed. You can't use Boilies, Pellets, Meat, Paste or additives.

11 turned out at Lower Park Redditch to fish "Abbey"pool. There's big Ghosties, Commons and Mirrors. Bream to 6lb and Barbel, Roach and Ide and just re-stocked with F1's. We had the whole pool, unfortunately the bottom half was frozen, we fished the top half, the North-East wind was a killer. There's two BP's to go for, needless to say, it was a struggle.

Result;- DO won with two stocky F1's and a few small Ide for 2-9-0. HP was second with nearly 20 bits for 2-3-0, WP was third with silvers and a jammy Perch for 1-12-0, Bringing up the rear on the big Bonus Peg was HJ with 1-10-0.

Next match is on Gratuities 20/1/2018 just before the AGM on 24/1/2018.

2017

Happy New Year and the start of a new Season

We go again on in 2018 with the start of a re-named match series "Winter Pools". These 5 matches will include Carp but caught using natural baits. That's Maggots, Castors and Worms. Our list includes Punch and liquidised bread and Course fish ground bait where allowed.

The first match on the 6th January is at Lower Park on Abbey. Let the Secretary know by the Thursday before the match if you plan to attend. Remember - No Pellets, Boilies, Paste, Carp ground bait or flavourings. See you there.

Christmas Open 30/12/2017 - Reluctantly Cancelled

We had no choice but to cancel the Xmas match, with the river well up on the Thursday before and by Saturday the Blythe was in the fields so unfortunately it was the right decision. We never entertained the thought of transferring, a Fladbury Christmas match must be at Fladbury.

Next seasons Xmas match is on the venue list but before then we might try again with a "Last Chance" open match in March 2018, keep your fingers crossed.

Merry Christmas to all members whether Full or Associate

Fladbury Christmas OPEN - 30th December 9am draw

Open to all, as always this is dependent upon river conditions, if interested let the Secretary know.

January 2018 AGM - a review of the 2017 season

The Society's AGM is on 24th January 2018 (8pm) at the Sheldon Ivy Leaf club, all welcome. There's a lot happening at the moment so watch out for "Any Other Business" we need you there to vote.

Membership in 2018 - No increase in Subscriptions

We are currently taking new Full and Associate members.

Full members fish the matches while Associate members can fish Fladbury Left Bank anytime when there are no matches.

We want you to re-join in 2018 and the best time for that is at our AGM on 24th January 2018 (8pm) at the Sheldon Ivy Leaf club or just call the Secretary.

16/12/2017 - 5th and Final Winter League match - Cancelled

After a week of snow followed by rain then extreme low temperature, by Thursday we were left with no options. The river was up due to the thaw and the Canals were solid - frustrating.

Winter League overall result; PW won the series and if we were able to fish the last match he couldn’t be caught, well done Peter.

Fladbury Christmas OPEN - 30th December 9am draw, if interested let the Secretary know. That's dependent upon river conditions

That's followed by the first match in 2018; It's at Lower Park on Abbey pool on 6/1/2018, 9am draw, see the venue list.

2/12/2017 - 4th Winter League match at Fladbury

After a week of frosts we are back on the bank on a milder but drizzly match day. Eight turned out and we drew for choice of pegs. H was first out opting for peg 19, PW opted for the hot peg 11 which has won the last three matches. Coming down the list FB-26, BB-6, DB-18, JA-13, JB-8, KK-17.

Result; PW in the hot peg 11 caught Chub all day averaging 6-12oz for 17-4-0 on castors. Starting a third over and switching to the far side when the Pike arrived, this peg has now won the last four matches. Second was JA with 3-1-0 in peg 13 and third was BB with 1-12-0 in peg 6. A convincing match and series win, well done Pete.

Next match; 16/12/2017 will be on a Canal - details later.

Change of Venue - 2/12/2017 switched to Fladbury

We have decided that next week's fourth Winter League will be held at Fladbury not on a Canal as stated earlier.

There are a couple of reasons, we had a scramble at Kings Road today 26/11/2017 and it fished very hard, a very cold wind and the water was freezing. The forecast for the week is cold weather so the Canal is not going to improve. So it's Fladbury for the fourth Winter League match, we will decide nearer to the date the venue for the last Winter League match.

18/11/2017- The 3rd Winter League match

Back at Fladbury for the third Winter League match, PW has won the first two matches in the series so we all are playing "Catch Up".

Nine turned out, weather was wet all day. There was a lot of discussion about which pegs to use and in the end we drew for 1-9 with number one having first choice so, no complaining about pegs. The river was a very clear, we were expecting a struggle.

Result;- The river did fish poorly, FB opted for peg 11 and went on to win with 4-4-0 of Chub all in the first hour and a half, once the Pike moved in it was all over. PW (13) and KK (1) finished joint second on 3-1-0. BB scraped in fourth with 2-9-0 in peg 2 on the pole. Interestingly peg 1 was used in a match for the first time in 5 years, the cabbages have died down and it looks a great winter Waggler peg and, peg 11 has won the last three matches, there's a few Chublets to be had if you can avoid the Pike.

Winter League positions after 3 matches after omitting your worst result;- PW is on 2, KK is on 4 and BB is on 5 points.

Next match is the 4th WL match on the Grand Union Canal at Kings Road Tyseley. 2/12/2017.

11/11/2017- The Chris Green Memorial match

- Final Aggregate and Pairs match

Back at Fladbury for the final of the well contested Aggregate series.

Aggregate positions;- We have PW and DB both on 21 points.

Pairs positions;- PW and KK are running away with it with an 11lb lead.

For the final Aggregate match eight turned out, we used pegs 8, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21 and 23. PW drew the BP 8. Weather was wet at first and very dull, the river was a few inches up, pacey with a tinge of colour.

Result;- The river fished reasonably well but patchy. Chub caught in pegs 11 and 13, bits nearer the weir. HP won with 9-9-0 of mainly small Chub, FB was second in peg 13 again 5-8oz Chub but they disappeared after an hour and half. BB in peg 19 was third with 3-15-0.

Aggregate final positions;- PW won the Aggregate series on 25 points, HP had 26, DB had 27 and BB had 28 points. Well done guys.

Pairs final positions;- PW and KK won wth a combined weight of 65-10-0, HP and DM were second on 59-7-0 a good performance because HP's partner missed 7 out of 10 matches. Well done guys

Next match is the third WL match a Fladbury on 18/11/2017.

4/11/2017- 1st Winter League Match at Fladbury

Back at Fladbury for the "Storm Brian" re-arranged match. Nine turned out, we used pegs 4, 6, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21 and 26. JA drew the BP. Weather was wet at first and the river was very clear.

Result;- Considering the lack of colour the river fished surprisingly well. PW won with 8-15-0 of small Chub and Dace from peg 11. JA (13) and BB (21) tied for second with 5-13-0. KK was fourth with 4-11-0 from peg 6. FB in peg 4 had Pike on a dozen times every time a decent fish the Pike had it.

After two matches we have PW on 2, BB on 5 and KK on 6 points.

Next match is the final Aggregate match at Fladbury on 11/11/2017

Sunday 29th October - 10th Associate member in 2017

Had a call Saturday evening from a guy who fished BAA Fladbury earlier in the day. He had spotted the new sign in peg 21 facing the bridge over the Nait on the BAA bank and enquired about joining. After learning that the cards are yearly and there is only a couple of months left he still wanted to join. Obviously he liked what he saw and was keen to join, that's a direct result of the condition of the pegs and advertising. Ten Associate members this year is very encouraging.

28/10/2017- 2nd Winter League Match on a local Canal

The 1st WL match (Fladbury) was re-arranged to the 4/11/2017 so this 2nd WL match (canal) becomes the first match fished in the series.

Eight turned out and BB drew the BP. Around 20 boats some turning round in the swims and high winds in the last couple of hours wrecked a match that to be honest was always going to be a struggle. PW won the match but lost a huge Bream early on.

Result;- PW had 2-2-0, KK had 1-9-0 and BB had 0-14-0.

Next match is the re-arranged first Winter League match at Fladbury on 4/11/2017

1st WL Match at Fladbury 21/10/2017 - CANCELLED

Sorry guys but after a lot of discussion we have decided to cancel and re-arrange Saturday's 1st Winter League match.

With rain Thursday & Friday preceding the match and rain & high winds forecast for match day we can expect the river to be up. Transferring is not an option because of the expected storm and high winds.

The plan is to fish the 2nd WL match as planned;-

Saturday 28/10/2017 on a canal venue to be decided.

Then the following weekend fish the rearranged 1st WL match;-

Saturday 4/11/2017 at Fladbury.

Then we are back on track with the 10th Aggregate match;-

Saturday 11/11/2017 at Fladbury.

Hope you all agree guys, we are in for an awful weekend and we can expect a rising river, the consensus is to re-arrange the match.

See the updated venue list.

7/10/2017- 9th Aggregate Match - the Fur and Feather

Back at Manor Farm Wasperton for the Fur and Feather match. Current standings are PW on 16 and DB and BB on 18 points. In the week we decided to use "meadow B". Eight turned out, the Sec. pegged out. Weather was wet and windy but into the match it turned into a gale. Most caught in the first hour, it got harder the longer the match went on, some packed up early.

Result;- JB won with 1-12-0 next peg upstream to the propeller swim, FB was second with 1-10-0 of small Chub and Roach caught way over on the stick in the first hour. Third was a tie between DB and SM on 1-3-0.

Aggregate series positions with one match to go;- Going into the last match we have PW and DB on 21 points with HP and BB on 25 points, going into the last match at Fladbury the 2017 Aggregate series now looks a two horse.

Pairs positions;- Leading we have PW and KK on 60-15-0 and behind them HP and DM on 49-14-0, the 2017 pairs looks cut and dried.

2/10/2017- 9th Aggregate Match F&F - Which Meadow?

The Secretary had a look at Manor Farm Wasperton today.

In "Meadow A" there are 5 pegs way upstream, 2 pegs to the right (beyond the ditch) then a quagmire with no obvious place to turn around.

In the Propeller Meadow (that's left at the Tee and immediately right) there is no mud. Park in the car park and you have 3 pegs upstream and several pegs downstream and up to and beyond the bend (bring your trolley). The pegs look great up there with a bit of colour at the moment.

Both meadows are weedy, "Meadow A" has a lot of mid-stream stalks with huge gaps between the pegs.

So it's "Meadow B" for a change, should be 8 or 9 of us, plenty of good looking pegs. That's into Wasperton, left at the Tee and immediately right. Down the track sign-posted BAA, through the gate and into the car park, see you there.

23/9/2017- 8th Aggregate and Pairs Match

Back at Fladbury, it's now very close with five anglers within one point of each other and three matches to go. The river was painfully clear. Seven turned out and the weather was sunny and dry. Brian suggested we used the access end away from the weir and pegs 2, 4, 6, 8, 11, 13 and 17.

Result;- PW won from peg 13 with 4-0-0 all on the waggler. Brian was second with 2-10-0 peg 11 again on the waggler. DB was third with 2-5-0.

Next match is the 9th Aggregate match (Fur and Feather) 7/10/2018.

16/9/2017- Jim Tylers Cutters Cup - Match Report

A free match for the guys who completed projects & maintenance at Fladbury. Nine members were eligible to fish this year's Cutters Cup, DM, FB, BB, HP, DB, PW, KK, JA & JB although DM, HP and JB were unavailable. We used pegs 13, 15, 17, 19, 22 & 24. Weather was dull and windy with a couple of mid match showers. The river was a bit clear. The committee decided to add prize money as a one off in recognition of the magnificent effort made at Fladbury this season.

Result;- FB won with 4-10-0 of Roach, Perch and Dace close in on red maggot, second was DB with 4-1-0 in peg 22, bringing up the rear was BB with 4-0-0 from peg 15.

FB had a huge Pike on that took a decent Chub, too big for the landing net, the rig ended up in the tree, PW was also plagued with Pike. KK never wants to draw peg 24 again. A deserved free match for the guys who have been grafting and everyone who helped gets a payout at the end of the season.

The next Aggregate match;- Back at Fladbury 23/9/2017.

Fladbury Xmas Open 30/12/2017 - Open to All

The Secretary is planning to run a Christmas open at Fladbury on Saturday 30/12/2017. Draw will be 9am fishing from 10am - 2-30pm. It will be £10 pools, a total pay-out with four prizes paid as 40%/ 30%/ 20% 10% so worth getting out of bed for. It's Fladbury or bust, if the rivers against us on the day we won't transfer, we will try another year. All the pegs will be in and it's open to all so it's first come first served. Let the Secretary know early if your up for it.

Associate membership surge

Sept. 2017. So far this season we have nine associate members. This is a direct result of improving the pegs and advertising via website, Fladbury signs and in tackle shops. In a season where we have spent on materials to upgrade the steps it is very welcome revenue but more than that, it is indicative of a bright future.

2/9/2017- 7th Aggregate at BAA Pershore RB - The Annual

Back at Pershore RB with new staging and parking in the field. Twelve turned out on a very clear river. BB and DB pegged out again and we used the far meadow. Weather was fine. As both BP's were won on the last match we started again, JB drew the BP. It was a strange match, those that decided to try the groundbait feeder caught Bream.

Result;- HP had three big Bream and bits for 18-14-0, DJ did the same for 11-12-0, SM had 8-10-0 and KK had 8-4-0.The thinking is that the Bream have moved up river from Pensham, strange because a lot of the pegs at Pershore RB are less than 6ft deep.

Positions;- After seven matches and omitting your worst two results it's close with DB, PW and HP on 15 points, then BB and KK on 16 points.

Next Match;- The Jim Tyler's Cutters Cup is next 16/9/2017.

The next Aggregate match;- Back at Fladbury 23/9/2017.

19/8/2017- 6th Aggregate match at Fladbury the LG shield

For once all of the pegs were available, we assumed, rain the day before meant we had a rising river and pegs 24 and 25 were very boiley. On a very windy day we used pegs 2, 4, 6, 8, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19, 21 and 23. BB drew the capped 2016 BP and FB drew the current 2017 BP.

Most struggled in the clear river conditions, we all thought SM "feeder man" on peg 23 was the danger. FB had the Dace going on the whip but they disappeared when the colour dropped out. BB caught throughout, PW had some larger samples in peg 13 but not enough of them. JB in peg two was plagued with Pike throughout.

Result;- FB and BB both on BP's tied with 3-10-0. PW was third with 2-15-0 and KK was fourth with 2-11-0, both Bonus pegs gone.

Positions;- Following the 6th Aggregate match and omitting the individuals worst two results we have DB on 9, PW and BB on 11 and KK on 12 points.

Next match is on 2/9/2107 The Annual at Pershore RB. Don't forget you can drive in the field.

12/8/2017- Final Bank Clearing

Heard from the guys that went to Fladbury today that all of the strimming and raking is completed and the guys found time to sort out the downstream tree in peg 10. Even peg 1 has had a good rake and we are now in the happy position of having every peg fishable.

11/8/2017- The Island Pegs - real progress

The Secretary and Brian arranged to view the island with the owner Trevor Goodall who indicated recently that we could resume fishing the island as shown on our deeds. The owner is determined to stop erosion and plans to turn the island into a nature reserve. The good news is he welcomes Girling AS fishing the island and even offered to help construct the platforms saying that he might fish himself.

Building platforms on the reeds was abandoned after we realised that the reeds extend out 20 to 25ft and there is a deep gully to cross to get onto the reeds. The initial plan is to build two platforms between the causeway and the reeds by June 16th 2018, we see this as a start and we may be able to build more platforms later. As we still have a lot of work to do on the steps a start next Spring seems logical.

Over the years we have had many issues concerning access, locks were cut off, even new locks put on without our knowledge. The owner is now responsible for access and determined to make the island secure. A little reminder as it's been so long, only full members are allowed to fish the island pegs. It's all very good news and next season we could be queuing up to fish the island.

Feedback from the Cashmore's AC match 5/8/2017

Thirteen fished leaving out the pegs with cabbages, they used pegs 2,6,7,8,15,16,17,19,21,22,23,24,&26. The match was won in peg 15 with 6-10-0 a peg that was only re-instated the week before, surprisingly peg 16 was third with 5-11-0. These pegs havn't been fished for years.

7/8/2017- The Pugh dynasty

The Secretary received a letter from the son (John) of a founder member (Albert "Bert" Pugh) who's younger brother (Alan) had just purchased two associate cards for his two brothers John and Ken.

John's letter follows;

My youngest brother I understand met you on the bank at Fladbury. We as children (all six including two sisters) spent every weekend fishing the Girling waters at Fladbury with our father Albert "Bert" Pugh. Dad of course worked at the Girling factory in Tyseley from 1936 until he retired in 1978. I believe he was one of the founder members of your Angling club and of course we got to know many of the club members when we accompanied him on matches on the water. I can not remember names except Mr Lou Greatrex a lovely chap and a good Secretary.

We have had so many good memories of our time spent at Fladbury and some "Hairy" ones. My younger brother and elder sister were both pulled out of the river, both were in very deep water and very very lucky. In those days there was very little bank work done and we fished off the grass bank. You and your present members have done an awful lot of work to make the riverside so much safer.

I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to once again fish Fladbury, I will not be trying to fish the matches but will certainly give it a go in midweek.    Kind Regards, John Pugh.

Alan said when he first made contact that it would be nice to continue the "Pugh" dynasty" - welcome back guys.

5/8/2017- "Cashmore's” club match at Fladbury

Got a brief summary from Tony Kulik about how their match went. Apparently there were a couple of 6lb weights, suspect from the weir pegs. Tony in peg 8 had a slow start but after two horrendous thunder storms packed up 20 minutes early and weighed in nearly 4lb. They were impressed with the new robust pegs and platforms but had to leave a couple out in the low numbers due to cabbages, the Secretary did explain before the match that some pegs needed raking.

A walk along the pegs after the match revealed no evidence they had been there other than a couple of paper peg numbers in pegs not clearly identified by us - Thanks Guys.

7/8/2017- Final bank clearing session 12/8/2017

It's this Saturday and the enormous amount of work done at Fladbury this year means that the remaining tasks are limited. The greatest need is raking. Some of the pegs have Lily Pads and storks, some have downstream bull rushes. Peg 9 was totally cleared of Bull rushes but they are back again a third over. A lot of the pegs need a strim or simply trimming the growth down the steps. Peg 10 has a downstream branch that needs removing, that's about it.

Next match is a week after the bank clearing 19/8/2017 so if the raking gets done we should be spoilt for choice for pegs.

4/8/2017- The island pegs - sounds promising

While sorting out the last set of steps in peg 11 the Secretary got chatting to a chap who said he had bought the island off Steven Guy. We had assumed that the island was being fished and we had accepted that there was nothing we could do about the situation. If you remember members have been warned off in the past, we now believe this was individuals who wanted to purchase the island.

Trevor Gooding bought the island as a project during his retirement and his intention is to save it from being washed away and preserve it as a nature reserve. He has planted willows because he has been told that he cannot put a barrier along the side facing the weir.

The Secretary explained that our deeds show that we own the fishing rights down from the island and before the lock was re-instated we used to fish from the island pegs, when re-instated we put the gate on and the ladder to gain access. Also that we have had a long term issue with access and that we want to get back to being able to fish the weir pegs. Trevor said that this wouldn't be a problem although he has had similar issues with someone interfering with the lock on the gate and he has had tools stolen from the shed on the island, he also said that he knows the LANT lock keeper and the chap who looks after the Millhouse so we should be able to work something out.

The Secretary commented that we have a committee meeting September and suggested that we meet up soon to have a look around the island and discuss access etc.

All very promising but the weir side of the island is thick with reeds and with the owner's consent we will have to recreate the pegs.

4/8/2017- All steps made safe in 2017 - and more

At the start of the season the reformed committee set the objective of making all steps safe in a season, this was completed this week, for the first time in many seasons all of the 26 pegs are safe & fishable.

When materials were available we built the steps to last (1, 2, 8, 9, 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 & 26), the remaining twelve pegs (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18) have renewed temporary steps. We increased safety further by building five bottom stage platforms on the weir pegs (22, 23, 24, 25 & 26) and others (11 & 17) where required, the silted pegs (5 to 9) now have raised platforms as a long term solution and peg 1 has been transformed. We now have one of the best kept stretches on the Warwickshire Avon and a big thank you goes to those that helped.

23/7/2017 - Three new Associate Members in July

Had a call from a guy who's father was a member in the 60's. Alan Edward Pugh was a founder member way back and his son also Alan remembers many happy days down Fladbury. He has purchased two Associate cards for his Brothers John and Ken Pugh, welcome guys, see you on the bank.

The same day (following a letter to Geoff Harborne who we have not heard from since last season) Geoff dropped a cheque in, welcome back Geoff, there's been some changes since you last fished Fladbury.

All Associates, please check the website "Fladbury Calendar" to avoid the matches and keep your card on you when fishing - Thanks.

15/7/2017 - August Bank Clearing 12/8/2017

Just a reminder that the final session of Bank Clearing is Saturday 12th August, you all saw at today's match that it's removing a bit of overgrowth and marginal weeds particularly in the lower pegs. It's your stretch of river, try and make it, 2 or 3 hours work and we will have a beer in the Anchor Inn lunchtime.

New Land Owner - Cattle

We met the new land owner Saturday 15th July, seems very accommodating and earlier apprehension has lifted. This is a new era for GirlingAS with lots of changes to allow cattle in the field. The heavy undergrowth is gone and the area seeded, luckily all of the slabbed pegs are within 15 feet. The owner is fencing off the gateway next week and happy to allow us to park in the field so the cars will be safe after next week. Parking in the field is optional but it will certainly help when moving in materials to finish the last 12 pegs with slabs, boards and poles. One benefit that slabbed pegs gives (apart from longevity) is that it will deter the cattle. Peg 2 is vunerable, if we do nothing it will become a cow drink, we need to talk to the owner to see what we can do.

15/7/2017 - 5th Aggregate match at Fladbury

Fourteen turned out for the fifth Aggregate match, the river looked great perhaps a bit clear, the weather was mild but windy. When we got to the pegs we realised that the low numbered pegs were a mess with new marginal growth, which led to some swapping of pegs. JA drew the capped BP and DO drew the current BP.

Result: BB cleaned up with 7-14-0 from peg 24, PW was second with 4-8-0 in 25 and DB on 17 was again in the money with 4-0-0 which included a bonus Chub, clearly lots of reasons to be on the high numbers.

Next match is the 6th Aggregate match on the 19/8/2017 back at Fladbury for the Lou Greatrex Shield.

Before that we have more Bank Clearing on the 12th August, many hands make light work.

8/7/2017 - Last week’s Barbel

Have a look at the BAA website, Keith's 9-8-0 Barbel is "Fish of the Week", it's on for the second time, initially the BAA decided we wasn't at Fladbury below last week. When the Secretary explained that he had 14 witnesses and a permit they put it back on - Well done Keith.

1/7/2017 - 4th Aggregate match at BAA Fladbury Below

Fifteen turned out for the fourth Aggregate match, the river looked great and isn't it nice to drive right up to your peg. The weather was mild BB drew the capped BP and DD drew the current BP. Brian and H pegged out, we had 3 pegs near the bridge and the rest in the second meadow.

Result: A strange match with lots of bits caught and no bonus fish. In the start of the second meadow even the bits were hard to locate. This was true until we weighed the three by the bridge. KK had two Barbel and bits for 14-6-0 best Barbel going 9-8-0 on pellet and HP was second with mainly Roach for 3-9-8. DB won the second meadow with 3-4-8. Brilliant turnout shame about the fishing.

Next match is the 5th Aggregate match on the 15/7/2017 back at Fladbury and the inaugural Peter Whittingham trophy.

Give the Secretary a call if you plan to attend on 0121 688 0964 or 07989 566219.

New Digital Scales

We have just purchased the latest Reuben Heaton Digital Scales (series 7000) with a capacity of 60kg in 1oz increments. They cost an arm and a leg and if anyone drops these we will set the Chairman's dogs on you, believe me, you won't want that.

17/6/2017 - 3RD Aggregate at Fladbury

Back on the River for the Fladbury Cup.

DB won the first match back of the season on a rejuvenated Fladbury fishery. After a total re-work of all the pegs by a few of the members this first match was an eye opener for some with new robust steps and platforms everywhere. Able to use pegs overlooked for many seasons the match was won in peg 25 with 12-2-0, second was PW in peg 17 with 10-11-0 a peg not used in matches for years and third was the chairman DM in peg 13 with 9-13-0. A great start to the season. With the Secretary on holiday Brian stepped in to run this first match back on the river, well done mate. Great to see Stevie Mathews back on the bank, he's been through the mill a bit lately and was gagging to get out.

Next match is the 4rd Aggregate 1/7/2017 at Fladbury below the bridge, parking behind your peg. The Secretary is back so its back to normal, call or text him if you plan to go on 0121 688 0964 or 07989 566219.

According to the AGM minutes Brian Barton and H. Potter are pegging out - thanks guys.

10/6/2017 The final Spring League match transferred to Broadacres "Bills Pool"

A similarly configured pool to Charlies which we have fished several times. We had half the pool pegs 1-16 and 11 turned out. The weather was Windy and dull, the capped BP was drawn by CF and the 2017 BP was drawn by BC, both worth winning, if not won we will have two big capped BP's going into next season.

Current league position;- After four matches and going into this final match of the series DD cannot be caught on 5 and JF and CF are on 9 points.

Result;- BC won on end peg 11 catching on meat and taking the Bonus Peg. CF was second with 28-4-0 on the other big BP and JF was third with 25-0-0 dead.

Points total at the end of the series (omitting your worst result) DD on 8, CF on 11 and JF on 12 points.

Well done Ginga (Darren Davies) Mr consistency on the commercials.

Next match is the 3rd Aggregate 17/6/2017 back on the  rejuvenated Fladbury fishery. With the Secretary in Spain Brian Barton is running this match so call or text him if you plan to go on 07788 648136.

New Associate Member

A chance discussion in the Anchor Inn after a work session resulted in a new Associate member, welcome Phil Andrews, a local guy who lives in Charlton

Membership Cards (Full and Associate)

The new season is imminent and all members whether Full and Associate have been issued membership cards, a couple of points.

(1)Always take your card with you, if you are challenged, produce your card, this applies to all members but especially new Associate members.

(2)If you encounter someone fishing Fladbury ask them to show you their card.

(3)We have zero tolerance with poaching, the contact details are on the signs, they can apply to join or keep away, by not challenging them we are encouraging them.

Sunday 4th June - Bank Clearing

FB, DM, HP, BB and DB helped out, FB finished the platforms in pegs 8 & 9 and began to rework peg 1 again. Dave fitted two steps in peg 4 although he says the top two steps need replacing, then had another go at the down stream reeds. Brian, Derek and H moved the slabs over to pegs 20 and 24, ready for new robust steps. The guys finished the sleeper repair in peg 16 but saved the hardest till last chopping a branch off above peg 1, removed some downstream overhanging branches then moved a huge snag out of the way. Well one guys.

We still have some incomplete tasks to do, see "Members Page" / "Maintenance" and click on "Fladbury Survey" to see the remaining tasks. Eligible to fish the Cutters Cup this year are FB, DM, HP, BB, DB, PW, JA, JB and KK.

Next Bank Clearing session is this Sunday 4th June

With so much effort spent so far producing steps and platforms etc. followed by a Saturday bank clearing session for once the remaining tasks are evident.

There are four pegs that so far have not been cleared pegs 11, 14, 15 and 18. There are two steps required in peg 4 and two steps required in peg 6 and several pegs could do with a rake, especially peg 9. Finally we need to remove the marginal reeds around pegs 14 to 19 but be careful especially if you get into the water.

See the "Fladbury Survey" on the "Maintenance page", there's plenty to keep us busy.

27/5/2017 fourth Spring League match at Shrewley Pool

A very well established pool with mainly Commons to go for. We heard there's parrot cages at the bottom of the left bank so switched to the right bank. When we got there there were angers already set up at the bottom of the right bank. We compromised and used 5 pegs on the left bank and 6 on the right bank which gave us the top end of the pool.

11 turned out and the weather was thundery at the start and windy throughout. The capped 2016 BP was drawn by DH and the 2017 BP was drawn by FB, both worth winning.

With Carp showing everywhere they didn't seem to want the baits, the sprats were a nuisance. Some thought the Carp were pre-occupied with eating the fish spawn.

Result;- AC had 59-10-0 pushing HP on the next peg into second with 57-1-0. On the left bank DD had 49-9-0 and CF had 40-13-0. Strange, the Carp went a bit, felt heavy but the scales seemed low. We know that they had recently spawned, but we will check the scales.

Points with one match to go and omitting the worst result we have DD on 5 and JF and CF on 9 points.

*Next match is the final Spring League match at Broadacres "Bills Pool" Pool 10/6/2017

*Don't forget the Bank Clearing Sunday 4/6/2017

24th May Work Party

Wednesday's work party was a bit special. We had Frank and Pat building a platform in peg 8, Brian wanted to complete robust steps in pegs 8 & 9, Pete completed the platform in peg 6, John, Dave and Keith came down to help out where possible, brilliant.

Brian completed steps in 8 then moved Frank & Pat (after preparing peg 8) out to go & complete their platform in peg 9. This peg hasn't been used in a match for years but it's now superb, except for the rushes. Brian also completed the steps in peg 8.

Pete completed the platform but there's still a couple of steps to do in peg 6. Dave trimmed the reeds in peg 17, John helped out where he could & Keith did a bit of roaving & tickling up pegs in the low numbers. By about 2.30pm it was time to go for a beer.

On the way across the field the land owner introduced himself and we had an amicable chat about the work we are doing and he informed us that he may have a buyer for the field. On the whole a long, successful day with the usual banter and a well earned beer

Next work party is Wednesday 31/5/2017. There is a platform to build in peg 8 and robust steps to build in pegs 20 & 24. There are four pegs that we haven't touched yet (pegs 11, 14, 15, 18) that require tidying with new boards where required. This meets our objective of safe steps by Autumn 2017, a magnificent effort, thanks guys.

Don't forget bank clearing Sunday 4th June, as above pegs 11, 14, 15 and 18 require attention and there's lots of raking and trimming left to do, but be careful.

Stevie Mathews

The secretary had a call from Steve 24th May, he's desperate to fish the Fladbury Cup but at the moment not well enough. He's had a rough time lately but we need him back on the bank chucking his feeder, so get well soon mate, there's a peg in the bag waiting for you.

Shrewley Pool - update

The Secretary had a walk around the pool to look at the pegs Thursday a week before our match. There was fish everywhere on the access end of the pool, it was a warm day followed torrential rain the day before. There were some guys on the left bank pegs 1-5 having a go with their match on Saturday, they were bagging up. Peg 1 fishing top 2+1 to a stump to his right was having a fish a chuck feeding maggots and pellets in 14 inches of water, said he had fed 4 pints of reds, he was on a 14 hook using 2 maggots. Peg 4 fishing to a stump to his left was also having a fish a chuck and he was on a 6lb hook link and a 16 hook. He was catching on banded pellet feeding dampened pellets. The guy on peg 2 was fishing out at top 2+2 catching on meat, bigger fish but foul hooking some. After peg 5 the trees are overgrown and it's pole only, that's why we switched to the right bank.

So, we have the right hand side and there's nine pegs down to the island but the pool looks very different around the back of the island, very quiet, looks great but limited. Some of the pegs on the far bank have dodgy platforms but 300lb came out last summer from one of these pegs. We will try to get 1-5 on the left and the rest on the right hand bank i.e. the access end of the pool, we'll see.

Dave Mullins - Hero

Dave went to Fladbury Sunday and tidied up peg 16. At Saturday's match he heard there was a work party Wednesday to finish the steps in peg 17, he decided to get involved suggesting to fit two steps in peg 13. What we didn't know was that a monsoon would send us home soaked and muddy, we left after Dave had finished the steps.

Dave had been quoted as saying "he felt guilty at not helping so far", Dave is 79 this year, we could do with a few more with his attitude.

Shrewley Pool on 27/5/2017 - update

The left hand bank is overgrown so we have switched to the right hand bank. Booked 12 but expecting 11 which means we will have some pegs on the right hand and some pegs on the far bank.

13/5/2017 - Third Spring League match at TBF House pool

A very well established pool with some big F1's to go for.

12 turned out and the weather was windy. The capped BP was drawn by PF and the current BP was drawn by HJ.

Result. JF won with 46-2-0, BC was second with 44-1-0 and DD was third with 43-7-0. Everyone commented that although the pool was alive with fish they didn't really want the bait with some strange and difficult bites to hit and plenty of lost fish, frustrating. Most caught on expander but the winner moved ahead using paste.

Points after three matches omitting the worst result;  DD on 2, JF on 4 and CF on 5 points.

*Next match is the fourth Spring League match at Shrewley Pool 27/5/2017

13/5/2017 - Bank Clearing 6/5/2017 - Update

Three turned out for Bank Clearing Day Saturday 6/5/2017 (HP, JA, and DB). DM came down Sunday and FB, BB, PW and JB had been down several times already this season building Signs, Steps and Platforms. That's eight eligeable to fish the Cutters Cup so far. Next Bank Clearing date is Sunday 4/6/2017, if you can't make these dates check out the Fladbury Survey (Members page/ Maintenance/ Fladbury Survey) for remaining tasks but everyone, please be careful.

13/5/2017 - SFL members vote

At the May committee meeting we decided to put three options to the members at today's match at TBF. The options were (1)No Change, (2)Allow Carp caught using natural baits, (3)All-In similar to the Spring League. The members voted nine votes for option 2 and two for option 1. There are a couple of members to vote but this won't affect the result. So, next season we will allow Carp caught using natural baits.  So let's clear up what "natural baits" means. Maggots, Castors, Worm & Bread Punch with liquidised bread, course fish based ground baits and Hempseed where allowed. Banned non "Natural Baits" are Pellets, Boilies, Corn, Meat, Bread flake, Additives and Carp based Ground Bait.

I guess we need a new name for the series, any ideas?

8th May - Change to the Final Spring League Venue

Heard that Arden Fisheries have a carp disease and they advise us to re-arrange, as you know we have Fox's booked for 10th June, 4 weeks away.

The Committee have agreed a change and booked Bill's pool at Broadacres. It's Commons and Mirrors (no other species stocked) averaging 4 to 6lb but go to 14lb, everyone gets 11mts to the island. The pool costs £140 and we have half the pool, 13 pegs for £70, no deposit, that's a good deal at <£5.50 a peg.

Potentially Bill's will make a great finale for the series, it's unavoidable, hope you all agree.

Committee Meeting 3rd May 2017

Bank Clearing. This committee meeting is planned for the start of Bank Clearing which this year begins Saturday 6th May and continues on Sunday 5th June. The objective is to clear the peg and to be able to cast and see downstream. On the website check out the Fladbury Survey chart showing work required, follow - "Members Page" drop down menu/ "Maintenance"/ "Fladbury Survey". As always, be careful.

Projects. To overcome any conflict of opinion for the first time the committee discussed and agreed a Fladbury project list with the objective of completion by Autumn 2017, follow - "Members Page" drop down menu/ "Maintenance"/ "Works Projects". The chart shows agreement to build raised platforms in pegs 8 and 9, a final bottom stage platform in peg 17 and sleeper repairs in peg 16.

"Safe Steps". To achieve this seasons objective structural work has begun early, we have new steps in pegs 19, 21, 22, leaving 14 sets of steps to meet our objective. On the theme of safety we have also built approach steps in pegs 2 and 12 and bottom stage platforms in pegs 22, 23, 24 and 25, remember peg 24 was under water from erosion, these fast water pegs are much safer. There's still a lot to do, we've made an excellent start and it's only early May. Derek and Brian have been busy scrounging materials and building the steps - well done guys. We have also renewed all four signs, John Blakemore who is not in the best of health at the moment built a new stand by the access gate (thank's John) and the secretary has updated all four signs with contact details. In addition, the dugout in peg 1 has been boxed in and the downstream tree blitzed so you can now trot through downstream, Yes we have to clear the cabbages.

Weigh Teams. After a few matches we can now see that the introduction of Weigh Teams is working, thanks guys for your efforts.

Fladbury Cup. With the Secretary on Holiday Brian Barton will run the June Fladbury Cup match 17/6/2017, please let Brian know if you plan to attend, as you are aware you should be fully paid up by this date.  Pairs. Brian will be busy enough on Fladbury Cup day so we drew the Pairs. We have eight from the first Aggregate match so the draw is;-  JB-DB, KK-PW, BB-JA, DM-HP.

Peter Whittingham. The July 2017 Fladbury match will be the inaugural, very well deserved, "Peter Whittingham Shield".

Silver Fish League. Again we discussed the SFL format, the January matches saw Carp returned and dry nets recorded. We discussed options and arrived at three but decided to leave the decision to the participating members. The options are (1)No Change, (2)Allow Carp caught using natural baits, (3)All-In similar to the Spring League. Voting slips will be supplied at the TBF match 13th May and must be returned by the Fox's match on 10th June. We understand that the term "Natural Baits" will cause some discussion so to clarify; Natural Baits are Maggots, Castors, Worm & Bread Punch with liquidised bread, course fish based ground baits and Hempseed where allowed. Banned non "Natural Baits" are Pellets, Boilies, Corn, Meat, Bread flake, Additives and Carp based Ground Bait.

Next Committee Meeting, is the 13th September where we decide next season's venues. Only a couple of members have supplied suggestions for venues so far, it's not too late.

Website. News, results, match reports, banter and progress at Fladbury can all be found on the website, click on the "What's New" box on the home page for the latest updates.

Sick Notes. Dave Mullins (Chairman), Stevie Mathews and John Blakemore have all been ill recently in differing degrees. Dave has missed all the matches so far but should be back at the next match at TBF. John is not 100% but he hasn't let it get him down and Steve says he will be back for the June Fladbury match. Well done guys, see you all on the bank.

29/4/2017 2nd Spring League match - Lower Park Highland Pool

We fished this pool last season and the match was won with F1's and small Barbel on the worm. 10 turned out and the weather was cold and windy. The capped BP was drawn by HJ and the 2017 BP was drawn by CF.

Result;- DD won with 51-15-0 of Carp on expanders and Meat. CF was second with 33-4-0 on the BP and JF was third with 31-4-0.

Points after two matches DD on 2, CF on 5 and JF on 6 points.

*Next match is the third Spring League match at TBF House Pool on 13/5/2017.

*Don't forget the Bank Clearing Saturday 6/5/2017, check out "members Page" drop down menu/ "Maintenance"/ "Fladbury Survey". Here you will find "Bank Clearing" tasks.

8/4/2017 first Spring League match - TBF Canal Pool

At last Carp count and starting the Spring League on this pool is becoming a bit of a tradition. We always have a good turnout and everyone catches. 12 turned out, we had pegs 8 to 24, and the weather was scorching hot. The big capped BP was drawn by DO and the 2017 BP was drawn by HJ.

Result;-  DD won with 64-15-0 of quality fish. AC was a close second with 64-4-0 and third was CF with 63-10-0.

*Next match is the second Spring League match - Lower Park Highland pool on 29/4/2017.

1/4/2017 - Second Aggregate at BAA Blackpole

Back on the Canal for the second match of the Aggregate series, FB and PW pegged out, 13 turned out. The capped 2016 BP was drawn by DD and the new 2017 BP was drawn by HJ. Weather was wet at the start then it got breezy. After one match there's not too much damage done with KK on 1, DB on 2, and BB on 3 points with DM, PW, HP, JB, JA all on 4 points the rest on 9 points. Result;DD won with 4-2-4 including a jammy Bream. FB was second with 25 fish for 1-11-4, JB was third with 1-10-8.

This leaves JB on 7 followed by KK, PW and HP all on 8 points.

*Next match is next Saturday, the start of the Spring League at TBF Canal on 8/4/2017, this is always a cracking match with big weights.

*Next Aggregate match is the Fladbury Cup in June 17/6/2017.

25/3/2017 - Final SFL Match a Pool House Farm

A beautiful pool known for big Tench but with huge shoals of silvers, there are small Barbel down the margins, the occasional Bream or Perch to go for but lots of Carp. This pool closes over the winter months and re-opens early March, apparently fishing well. BC drew the capped BP and HJ drew the current BP.

Result: Darren Davies won the last match taking the series with 11-9-0 of Ide and Roach and a bonus 3lb Bream. Dean Jenkins was second with 11-6-0 and Carl Forty was third with 10-6-0. Everyone caught Silvers and the owner said we can come back anytime.

Final positions after omitting one worst result. DD with 8 followed by CF with 11 points, well done Darren.

*Next match is the second Aggregate match at BAA Blackpole 1/4/2017.

*Then the first Spring League match at TBF on Canal Pool 8/4/2017.

11/3/2017 - Fourth SFL Match at Alderhanger Lane Pool

A private 22 peg pool with Barbel, Tench, Roach Ide and Perch to go for, can you avoid the Carp including grass Carp? An "all in" match here last September was won with Barbel. You normally drive into the field and go through a gate into the adjacent field parking near to the hedgerow, not today. After a week of rain we had to drag our gear through three fields to get to the pool. Carl had a mixed day. First he gets his van stuck in the mud near to the access and has to walk through three fields to get to the pool, then he falls in to the pool but he went on to win the match. Weather was dry and mild. FB drew the capped 2016 BP and HJ drew the current BP. Going in to this penultimate match we have DD, FB and DJ all on five points.

Result; CF with 3-15-0, DD with 3-13-0 and PF with 2-1-0. Points after four matches omitting one worst result, DD on 7, CF on 8 and FB on 11 points.

*Next match is the final SFL match at Pool House Fm. 25/3/2017.

5/3/2017 - Renewing the Fladbury access Sign

John (Blakemore) gave up his Sunday to renew the stand near to the access gate. This allowed the secretary to fit the new sign and paint the stand so all four signs are renewed showing Society contact and website details.

The signs now tell the local and visiting anglers that we are accessible and accepting new members and club bookings.

Monday 27/2/2017 - Bonus Peg Blues

The last match at Gratuities was won by Darren Davies (Ginga) which stopped his match partner Darren Onley winning the capped Bonus Peg which is definitely worth winning. Heard that he sulked all the way home and by Monday night hadn't got over it. Remember that these guys were first and second in the match and cleaned up, thanks Ginga, the BP survived.

25/2/2017 - Third SFL Match at Packington on Grats

The first couple of matches in the Silver Fish League were tough, fishing for bites in near arctic conditions. With the weather improving the remaining three matches in the Series should be livelier. An all-in match on Grats the previous Saturday was won with three Big Bream from peg 8. We go into the match after two results with FB, HP & DJ all on one point. Weather was windy and wet. 13 turned out, DO drew the capped 2016 BP and PF drew the current BP.

Result. DD won with three big Bream for 13-9-0 on Maggot, Second was his travelling partner DO on 9-2-0 (BP saved) and third was BC on 8-10-0 who pulled out of several big Bream.

Points after three matches and omitting one worst result we have DD, FB, and DJ all on five points.

*Next match is the fourth SFL match at Alderhanger Ln. 11/3/2017. Meet in the layby on the A435 located exactly 2miles south of the M42/J3 (towards Studley), look for the "`Dave's Snax" signs. Be there before 7.45am, we will move off when the owner turns up at 8am so be early, if you need directions give the Secretary a call.

"Safe Steps by Autumn 2017" - 18/2/2017

Brian and Derek spent all day Saturday (18th Feb.) replacing the steps in peg 21, they set the standard, so robust they will outlive most of us. Well done guys, see the photographs on the "Work Projects" page.

Objective - We are starting to get some momentum going, we have an established website, we are advertising everywhere for members and bookings, new Fladbury signs show our contact details, that's all positive for the future. Renewing the steps is part of the process because safe well maintained pegs means the clubs will return.

It's a lot of effort by the few, we are already planning the next work party, let's see how far we have come by Autumn 2017.

11/2/2017 - First Aggregate at BAA Pensham 1-2-3

With a swollen river all week we nearly transferred but come Thursday evening with the colour starting to drop out we took a chance and decided to fish the river. On the morning it looked just fishable but retaining a lot of colour. BB and DB pegged out, Eight turned out, we took the pairs contributions but will draw later in the season. The capped BP was drawn by PW and and the 2017 BP was drawn by DB. Weather was dull, trying to snow and cold.

Result - Keith (Kite) won with 0-7-0, DB was second with 0-5-0 and bringing up the rear was BB with 0-2-0.

A poor match but the guys were determined not to transfer this first Aggregate match to a canal which we have done for the last two or three years. Thanks to the weigh team of Brian and Derek, pegged out and weighed in - Brilliant.

*Next match is the third SFL match at Grats 25/2/2017.

*Next Aggregate match is at BAA Blackpole 1/4/2017.

9/2/2017 - First meeting of the re-formed Committee

The committee in their new roles are keen to get on with the job and inevitably there will be changes, the committee are keen to delegate as much as possible and spread responsibility.

AGM thoughts. A very well attended meeting, a little strange due to the committee changes, Peter stepped down and the chairman thanked him for his long term efforts. We decided not to allow Pike in matches, retain and return. The Ivy Leaf Club was again very hospitable and the Society now has a couple of Girling AS notices on their notice boards - Thanks.

Our short term objective is to sort out all of the eroded steps and renew the Signs and Peg numbers at Fladbury, work parties will start around March 2017. We know that's a tall order but the committee want everyone to get involved. As an incentive this year, all revenue generated from bookings at Fladbury will be used as prize money for the Cutters Cup match.

All Safe Steps by next Autumn - Progress

DB has secured a batch of scaffold poles and boards, Brian has a batch of 2x2ft slabs which he plans to cut in half for steps and they plan to tackle the steps in peg 21 as soon as conditions allow. FB plans to put approach steps in pegs 2 and 12 to make them safer which means that pegs 8, 9, 11 and 13 to 26 require new steps i.e. seventeen pegs.

Fladbury recent Maintenance

The steps in peg 10 have finally been completed and you can now trot through without snagging. The three bankside signs have been renewed now showing Society contact details (see photograph in "Works Projects"). The sign by the entrance gate is leaning and needs re-righting, a new sign is ready to attach but we need some strong guys to pull the stand back to the upright position first.

We still plan to fit a raised platform off the sleeper in peg 6 and raised platforms in pegs 8 and 9. That will be platforms in pegs 5 to 9 i.e. all of the silt affected pegs.

Our long term objective is more club bookings at Fladbury. That's what the website is about, the bankside signs now show contact details and we have notices everywhere. We want to attract them and keep them and to achieve that we have to have the pegs fishable and safe for the entire season. Additional revenue means subscriptions remain low and that should attract new members, who knows we may be able to spread the prize money a little further.

Peter Whittingham's Match Trophy

The Committee have decided to dedicate the July Fladbury match to Peter in honour of his 40 years of service. So this year you will be fishing for the "PW July Trophy". It's not shown on the venue list yet and we need to obtain the Trophy.

Silver Fish League

There has been some discussion between the members concerning the SFL. We added two matches in January this year which used to be the WL dates and in those days we used to get 5 or 6 out or worse. Attendance for the recent SFL January matches have been ten and eleven in near arctic conditions, indicating that this format is preferred by the members. Some have caught and returned Carp and registered a dry net which is hard to accept.

We shouldn't be too surprised at these January weights, you would struggle anywhere with the low water and air temperatures. Weights will pick up at Gratuities, Alderhanger Lane and Pool House Farm but you will have to return the Carp. We will continue to monitor this Silver Fish League format.

A December AGM

We have been looking into the implications of a December AGM. The committee have always thought that an AGM in January is a bit dis-jointed and directly at the end of the season makes more sense. As far as we can tell the issues are (1)paying your subscriptions just before Christmas and (2)the Winter League trophy will not be engraved when presented in December. The Committee have decided "no change".

Start of the 2017 Aggregate Series

Next match 11/2/2017 is the first in the Aggregate series at Pensham, this time we have meadows 1, 2 & 3. Meadows 1 & 2 are upstream and meadow 3 is downstream. We have plenty of pegs and a couple of Bonus Pegs to go for.

Directions;- Coming from Fladbury /Evesham take the last left turn before Pershore bridge, sign posted Pensham, bear right at the fork into the village and go right at the tee junction, then go right between the barns into the car park. As usual it's a 9am draw, for this match we will draw in the car park. Be early because we want to draw for the Pairs competition.

Brian and Derek have volunteered to peg out, thanks guys.

Remember to contact the Secretary by the latest Thursday evening if you plan to attend, it gives us the expected turnout and you will be aware of match transfers if necessary.

A bit late

Apparently Dean went to the meeting Thursday evening and wondered where everyone was. Of course we had the meeting 24 hours earlier, see "Latest News".

Sheldon Ivy Leaf Club

The Society would like to say thanks to the Sheldon Ivy Leaf, they made us very welcome and offered to put Girling AS notices on their notice boards. We have used this club for AGM's for over 25 years, thanks again.

25/1/2017 AGM - Meeting Summary

Very good turnout with 15 members present including one of the new members, welcome Keith (Kite).

*Secretaries Report;- The incoming Secretary presented last season's Secretaries report. Steve M. and John B. are both recovering after major surgery, we have heard that John has been back in hospital since Christmas for further treatment, heard through the grapevine that Steve is recovering, he's targeted June for a return, get well soon guys.

Peter's resignation surprised everyone, more in AOB.

We had five new members in 2016, four are expected to remain within the Society, we have two new full members next season, both river anglers.

We had one Fladbury booking in 2016 and one already received in 2017. There was a huge effort made this year to overcome the effect of winter floods and have all pegs fishable, in addition, three stages were erected (pegs 2, 5, and 7).

In 2017 we will use weigh teams which will help the committee enormously on the bank.

*Treasurers Report;- The Society made a profit in 2016 mainly due to increased membership, no increase in subscriptions.

*Website;- The Website is in its second year and already this season we have a Fladbury booking and two full members easily covering this year's costs, we get the website very cheaply with free management and a low annual subscription. In January 2017 there was a raft of changes due to seasonal and Committee changes. The committee will consider the website a success when we meet our objective of having five or six club bookings every season at Fladbury.

*Any Other Business;- (AOB 1)The Chairman paid tribute to Peters immense efforts over his 40 years at the helm, the committee have decided to award life membership.

(AOB 2)The remainder of the committee have re-organised their roles. Dave remains as Chairman, Frank took on the Secretaries role while continuing with the website and Peter F. is the new Treasurer, H. Potter and Brian Barton have joined the Committee and the reformed team began at the start of the 2017 season.

(AOB 3)As the new Treasurer does not fish the River matches the committee informed the members that club prize money will be paid at the end of the season.

(AOB 4)In 2017 there will be five SFL matches (prev. 3) similar to the SL and WL series, all three series will count 4 from 5 in 2017.

(AOB 5)The two additional January SFL matches occur before the AGM, the venue list was distributed with the pre-AGM letter early December.

(AOB 6)In order to encourage members to help with bank clearing the committee have decided that all revenue generated from club bookings at Fladbury will be used for Cutters Cup prize money after deducting website costs.

(AOB 7)Darren Onley followed procedure and submitted the discussion point "Should we continue to allow Pike in matches". After discussion the membership voted to ban Pike, you can retain them but you must return them.

* Pegging Out;- Pensham BB & DB, Blackpole DM & PW,  Fladbury below HP & BB, Manor Farm DM & FB, All other venues pegged by the Committee

*Prize Giving for the 2016 season;- The Aggregate Cup was won by Brian Barton, The Pairs was won by Brian Barton and H. Potter, The SFL was won by Jeff Foxworthy, The SL was won by Carl Fortey, the WL was won by Peter Whittingham, well done guys.

* Finally;- The incoming Secretary commented that despite stirling efforts by the few, 17 out of 26 pegs at Fladbury have dangerous and eroded steps and asked the membership for a concerted effort to renew all of the steps next season. Anyone who can help please inform a committee member and a work party will be arranged.

An eventful and positive well attended AGM meeting and with Peter stepping down after decades at the helm, a fresh challenge for the Society.

21/1/2017 - Second SFL Match at Lavendar Hall Ben's Pool.

After a couple of frosty mornings Ben's pool was frozen over so we switched to Dragon pool which was ice free & recently stocked with Silvers, but would they feed and could we avoid the Carp?

11 turned out, PF drew the capped 2016 BP and CF drew the current BP. We used the whole pool and pegs suggested by the fishery manager. Dragon is a raised pool and with an icy wind it became an endurance event.

Result, FB caught 6-7-0 of Skimmers fishing two 14mtr swims in a vee. The Skimmers were reluctant feeders but succumbed to very soggy groundbait and Pinkies fed and a red maggot on a 22 hook. Second was DJ with two fish one a 2-3-0 Perch in his 3-8-0 weight. Third was CF with 1-14-0 on the long pole. Fourth is worth a mention because the only other guy to catch was DD who had 1-7-0 on the waggler.

After two matches FB and DJ are both on five points.

Thanks to the new weigh team of Darren and Carl, like a "well oiled" machine, well done guys.

Note these dates;-

*Don't forget the AGM 25/1/2017, Sheldon Ivy Leaf at 8pm.

*Next match is the first Agg. match at Pensham on 11/2/2017.

*Next SFL match is on 25/2/2017 at Packington Gratuities.

7/1/2017 - First SFL Match a Packington - Anniversaries.

This was the first match run by the reformed committee.

Earlier in the week we saw -7deg, then Friday it rained, but on matchday evidence of ice remained but the air temperature was mild but thick fog remained all day, how's it going to fish? The answer was crap.

This is the Silver Fish League and Carp don't count. A match on Anniversaries this time last year was hard but some big Bream fed.

10 turned up for this first match of the season, AC drew the capped 2016 BP and PW drew the new 2017 BP.

The match was very hard. Most went four hours without a bite. The Carp switched on for half an hour then it was back to biteless. Amazingly two members both had a 1-4-0 Chub, clearly this is all that was feeding.

Result; H. Potter and Dave Hughes tied on 1-4-0 and the only other guy to catch was Dean Jenkins with a 0-1-0 Perch. The fishery manager informed me after the match that this pool will be restocked with silvers next week, Great.

Next match is 21/1/17 at Lavender Hall, a local pool the Society has not match fished before.

Two New Members in 2017

Pleased to welcome two new members who contacted the Society through the Website, welcome Tony and Keith.

Weigh Teams in 2017.

To speed up the after match process especially on cold winter days the committee have decided to use weigh teams this season.

On Commercials (SFL and SL) Darren Davies and Carl Fortey have agreed to weigh in.

On Rivers and Canals (Aggregate and WL) Brian Barton and Derek Banks have agreed to weigh in.

Thanks guys, that will make match days a lot easier for the committee, check out the committee page on the website.

December 2016.

Girling AS New Year's Eve Scramble - Report.

The scramble on the Grand Union Canal br. 74 - 75 was a bit of a disappointment. Following a couple of days of sub zero temperatures we had a couple of mild nights and luckily the ice melted just in time for the match but the Canal was clear and ice cold.

Six turned out, the match was won by Darren Onley with a 1oz Perch. Yes you’ve guessed it, the rest were whacked. Enjoy your  Year's Eve celebrations guys I hear Darren’s buying the beer. We drew for the other places and Henry then H. came out of the hat.

Come on you Canal anglers, we have squeezed another one in, a scramble on the Grand Union Canal at Bridge 73. That's Hampton Lane, up from Blythe fishery and down from the Wilson’s Arms in Knowle, there's a car park, don't miss this.

It's the 31st of December (new years eve so you can have a couple after), 9am draw on the bank, £10 all in.

This is a superb stretch of the canal with Bream, Skimmers, Chub, Roach, Perch and some big Carp. I know it's the wrong time of the year to bag up but trust me, this place is stuffed and you need to work that Turkey off.

Give the Secretary a call on 0121 688 0964 or 07989 566219.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our Members, Families and Friends.

See you in the new year at Packington Sommers on 7th January 2017 for the start of the 2017 season and the start of the Silver Fish League.

17/12/2016 Final Winter League match at Fladbury

Seven turned out for this last Winter League match back at Fladbury. The weather was cloudy, damp and dull but mild for December, there was a tinge of colour and looked ok. DM drew the Bonus Peg (2), we used pegs 2, 5, 7, 13, 19, 21, and 26.  PW is leading on 6 points followed by FB and JA on 14 points. Result - HP won the match with 10-4-0 of mainly Chub out of peg 13, JB was second in peg 26 with 6-4-0 and FB brought up the rear in peg 5 with 5-10-0 of Chub but lost a good Barbel mid match.

The 2016 Winter League series winner is Peter Whittingham on 11 points, runner up was FB on 17 points, well done Peter.

For the complete match series summary go to News/ Summaries/ Match Series/ Winter League.

That's it for another season but the show goes on with the start of the 2017 SFL series at Packington Sommers on 7th January 2017.

7/12/2016 Committee Meeting.

The December committee meeting is essentially where we prepare for the January AGM by approving the 2016 Balance sheet and Results, the pre-AGM letter and next seasons Venue List. This meeting was a little different, Brian Barton and H. Potter have agreed to join the committee and were in attendance, welcome guys.

The Balance sheet showed an £85 profit in 2016 mainly due to increased membership.

The AGM is planned for 25th January starting at 8pm. This year there are several AOB items raised by the committee and one received from a member, we expect a busy AGM meeting.

The new Venue List is usually distributed at the AGM however, in 2017 we have two additional Silver Fish League matches in January before the AGM, to overcome this, the venue list will be distributed early December.

We will shortly circulate the pre-AGM letter with the Agenda and enclose the previous AGM minutes, 2017 Venue list and a venue selection form (your opportunity to determine venues for 2018).

Don't forget the final Winter League match on 17/12/2016 at Fladbury, then the two SFL matches in January, 7/1/2017 at Packington and 21/1/2017 at Lavendar Hall. Then we will see you all at the AGM 25/1/2017.

3/12/2016 The 4th WL match on the GU Canal at Tyseley.

Eight turned out for this penultimate match, we planned to use the pegs in the thirties again but you could see lopped branches had been allowed to fall in the Canal, we walked on and used the pegs in the forties and low fifties opposite the trees. The weather was cloudy and cold. DJ drew the new Bonus Peg.  Last time on this stretch the skimmers responded, now after the Canal was frozen a few days earlier, who knows?

FB won the match with 7-9-0 catching short on the chopped worm and later on the punch up the far slope. PW was second with 4-2-8 of punch Roach. Third was H. Potter with 1-4-0. This leaves PW on 6 points with FB and JA on 14 points going into the final WL match at Fladbury 17/12/2016.

2/12/2016.

Heard that John (Blakemore) is in Hospital after a serious operation, all the lads send their best wishes. Have a relaxing Christmas, we expect to see you on the bank very soon.

24/11/2016 Work in peg 10.

A work party late November paid two visits to renew the steps and sort out the downstream tree in peg 10. The first visit was just after the river had been in the fields, the water was still up and the old steps extremely slippy, the guys managed to half finish both tasks although, the downstream overhanging tree proved to be much worse than we thought. The willow tree at some time had partially fallen in and was sprouting several branches under water. It took a second visit early December to completely clear the snag and finish the third step.

19/11/2016 Third Winter League match at Fladbury.

Seven turned out for the Third Winter League match back at Fladbury. The weather was cold and windy, The River was back to clear again. PW drew the Bonus Peg (24) and we used pegs 2, 4, 5, 7, 21, 24 and 26.

PW won the match with 4-9-0 of mainly Chub, JA was second with 3-9-0 in peg 26 again and FB was third with 2-11-0 from peg 21. PW wins the Golden Peg from a peg he didn't fancy.

This leaves PW on 4, JA on 8 and JB on 11 points going into the fourth WL match back on a the Canal 3/12/2016 this time, the Grand Union, Kings Road, Tyseley.

18/11/2016 - Peg 1, 3 and 5.

Peg 1 has been tidied up and overhanging branches removed, requires a good rake but it is fishable again. Not an easy peg to fish with the downstream overhanging tree and cabbages in front, I guess its feeder, waggler over or Pole, as anyone tried the pole in this peg?

Peg 3 has similarly been tidied up and the reeds in front of the peg removed. It's a good winter peg in the Bay and a brilliant Pole peg.

Following the new raised platform in peg 5 the guys have totally renewed the steps, it's a real armchair peg!

12/11/17 Final  Aggregate match at Fladbury.

Eight turned out for the 10th and final Aggregate match at Fladbury. The weather was wet but mild for November, The River had a tinge of colour and up a couple of inches after several weekday showers. Brian Barton drew the Bonus Peg (21).  John Austin won the final match with 5-9-0 from peg 26, always a good peg with a bit of water on. He caught the other side of the boat channel fishing the crease. Dave Mullins was second from the opposite end peg 2 with 4-1-0. Brian Barton was third from peg 21 with 3-13-0. Chub showed, PW and BB had Chub and fourth placed Frank Bagley in peg 5 lost several Chub, they wouldn't take anything bigger than a 22 hook.

This leaves Brian Barton on 22 points followed by Peter Whittingham on 27 points. Worth a comment that Brian has been ill all week but was determined to fish the final match. A very close run series by the pair having similar points and weight after eight matches, would have been closer but for some bad luck on the 9th match, well done guys. For the complete match series summary go to:

Summary of the 2016 Aggregate series.

Next match is next Saturday (19/11/2016) the third Winter League match at Fladbury

29/10/17 - Second Winter League match on a local Canal

Eight turned out for the second Winter League match on a local canal. The weather was cloudy but mild for October, Dean Jenkins drew the Bonus Peg.  John Austin won after turning up late and dropping in to vacant peg 2. He sprayed maggots and won with two Crucians, a nice Perch and some Roach for 4-7-0. Peter Whittingham was second with a 3-8-2 all Roach catch on the Punch. H.Potter was third on the end peg and the only one to catch throughout weighing a mixed 2-8-8. For most the Canal switched off after a kind Boater ploughed through the stretch.

This leaves PW on 3, JA on 6 and JB on 7 points going into the third WL match back at Fladbury 19/11/2016.

15/10/17 First Winter League match at Fladbury

For the Winter League we try to alternate between Fladbury and local Canals although the weather usually dictates the location. As planned we started at Fladbury but the river has been low and clear all summer. The weather was amazingly mild for mid October. Ten turned out and Darren Davies drew the Bonus Peg 5.

Peter Whittingham had a lovely bag of Roach (7-1-0) from peg 2, John Blakemore (5-7-0) also had Roach but from way upstream peg 25, he caught mainly down the edge on the whip. Frank Bagley was third with 4-11-0 of bits but included a small Barbel all on big stick and red maggots.

Next match is 29th October, the second Winter League match on a local Canal venue TBD.

8/10/2016 - 9th Aggregate match at BAA Pershore RB.

Eight turned out for the 9th Aggregate Fur and Feather match where the front runners Peter Whittingham and Brian Barton are both on 16 points separated by less than 2oz with two to matches go. We took advantage of the new bank side car park and Brian Barton and Derek Banks pegged out. Weather was cool and dry but the river was still very low and clear, Derek drew the Bonus Peg 5. With four pegs way downstream and four near the access point it was no surprise that we were continually moving on wandering anglers.

John Blakemore won the match from below the bay in a noted Barbel area, he weighed 8-9-0 that included a Barbel around 7lb that he played for 20 minutes on a one pound hook link. Second was Dave Mullins 4-2-0 from the middle of the first

meadow, third was Brian Barton with 3-13-0.

Peter could only manage six place so now we have Brian on 19 and Peter on 22 points going into the last match at Fladbury.

3/10/2016 - Aggregate update with two matches to go

With two matches to go it couldn't be closer between Brian Barton and Peter Whittingham. After omitting their worst two results they are both on 16 points separated on weight by less than two ounces. H. Potter is in third on 22 points, it's theirs to lose.

3/10/2016 - Pairs update with two matches to go

Based upon the Aggregate match combined weight H. Potter and Brian Barton are way in front on 55-12-0. The only pair able to catch them are Peter Whittingham and John Austin on 41-1-12, a deficit of over 14lb with two matches remaining.

18/9/2016 - BAA car park for Pershore RB 8th October.

Don't forget there is a new bankside car park for the Pershore RB match and this match is the first of the 9am draws.

Location - Approaching Pershore bridge from the Evesham / Fladbury direction go past the bridge and turn left into the field. The combination is 3590 and the BAA instruction is to always lock the gate behind you. Drive across the field to the corner style near the river bankside. See the BAA website or new handbook.

8th Aggregate match at Fladbury.

Only six turned out to fish a low and very clear River Avon. There was some discussion about whether to fish the low numbers or the high numbers below the weir. The lows had it, we fished pegs 2, 5, 7, 10, 13 and 19. John Austin drew the Bonus Peg 5. Weather was ok at the start but half way into the match we had gale force wind.

John Blakemore won with 7-3-0 on the stick float in peg 19, the most upstream peg. Brian Barton was second from peg 10 with 5-0-0 dead. Third was John Austin with 4-11-0, on the pole with red maggot in peg 5. Frank, who won the last Fladbury match blew out last from a fancied peg.

Two aggregate matches to go and Peter W. and Brian B. are both on 16 points.

Next match is Pershore RB the Fur and Feather, don't forget to use the new car park, 9th October with a 9am draw.

17/9/2016 - "Jim Tyler" Cutters Cup Match.

We had a strange match in the Cutters Cup at Fladbury, seven bank clearing stalwarts were eligible, H. Potter couldn't make it preferring to go to White Acres (can't blame him really) so that left six, Brian said he couldn't avoid a family get together (Booze up) then Dave called saying that he had the squirts (what next). So the four stalwarts PW, FB. DB. And JA had the stretch to themselves and for an even match used downstream pegs including the new platforms, we used pegs 5, 7, 11 and 13. The weather was on our side, the day before we had a hell of a gale but the predicted thunderstorms for Friday hit the south (missed us). The river was as low and clear as anyone can remember, perhaps could have done with a storm earlier in the week. Predictably we caught bits for the first two hours then it shut down. Frank in peg 11 won with 2-15-0 all on Stick float with red maggot, couldn't catch on Bronze. Pete next with 2-13-0 in peg 5, the runners up both had 2-1-0.

Wednesday (am)14th September 2016 - New Platform in peg 5.

A couple of weeks ago a new Platform was installed in peg 5 but the peg was too overgrown to use with overhanging branches and a huge bank of reeds downstream. After another session we are pleased to announce that the peg is now fishable. Working from the bankside because of a deep hole under the tree, the downstream overhanging branches have been removed and the overgrowth to the right on the raised silt and considerable reed growth to the left have all been cleared.  Peg 5 hasn't been used in a match for a while, a few years ago it used to produce good Roach bags, let's see what weights it throws up.

Wednesday (7.30 pm) 14th September - Committee Meeting.

2017 Venues - The September meeting is essentially where we decide next season's matches, this year only two members have submitted their venue suggestions. A draft 2017 venue list was produced and we will now book the matches and issue next seasons venue list at the AGM.

Rule changes - In 2017 the Silver Fish League (SFL) will be five matches (prev. 3) in line with the Spring League (SL) and Winter League (WL). This continuity has allowed us to have a "4 from 5" count rule (20%) for the three five match series in 2017 similar to the long standing Aggregate policy of "8 from 10" (20%), so 4 out of 5 count in the 2017 SFL, SL and WL.

More rule changes -  2017 will be all 9am draws and we have moved the 5th Aggregate match from the second Saturday in July to the third Saturday in July.

Silver Fish League - There has been a great deal of effort to find new local silver fish venues and the committee have chosen five very different venues four are new to the society.

Website - We have just begun the second year of the website generally considered to be a success in terms of membership, Fladbury  bookings and generating interest within the society. The recent addition of the "Members Page" has certainly added to the banter within the society, any reports of catches or incidents are welcomed, why not get involved? What would you like to add?

Bank Clearing Summary - This year the pegs were in particularly poor condition after the winter floods, this included strimming all of the pegs, moving a fallen tree in peg 10, repairs to the bottom stages in pegs 16, 17, 22 and 24 and moving flood debris in pegs 19 and 20. We also constructed a stage in peg 2 and built two raised platforms, raked and renewed the steps in pegs 5 and 7, thanks to all who helped.

Next we plan to rake peg 9 and re-work the sleepers in peg 6. The August bank clearing session resulted in all pegs being fishable going into the Autumn months, although there's still a lot to do particularly steps in several pegs.

Cutters Cup Match - This year seven members helped with bank clearing and therefore eligible to take part in next weekend’s Cutters Cup match, they are PW, DM, FB, BB, DB JA and HP, although H cannot make it.

Associate Membership - Two cards taken out at the start of the season namely Jeff and Frank.

Fladbury Club Bookings - Through the website we already have one Fladbury booking in 2017 for 5th August 2017.

Girling AS on tour - We are proposing a match fishing series on the Somerset Levels during September 2017, planned as a weekday session. Details will be made available at the next AGM, we need to gauge the interest.

Summarising, we had a good meeting covering a lot of issues.

August 2016 - Result, Cashmores AC 31/7/2016.

Just heard that Cashmores enjoyed their match at Fladbury, apparently it was won in peg one (possibly two) with 5-14-5 on maggot using whip, pole and waggler. Second was peg 21 with 4-4-4, a couple of 8oz Barbel and a couple of slightly larger Chub on the stick float. Third was 3-9-8 in peg 15, we know the river was a bit clear. They fished immediately after the latest strimming, seemed upbeat, they could be back.

Bank Clearing - 6th August

Since the May-June bank clearing sessions the guys have strimmed all of the pegs again and built a platform and steps in peg 7, well done guys. This allowed us to concentrate on specific problems during the August session like further work in peg 2 and we were able to clear a few pegs of marginal weed. Four turned out for this session (PW, DM, FB and JA).

We plan to have platforms in pegs 5 and 9 before the next match.

July 25th - Platform in peg 7.

We have started to address the long term issue of silt in pegs 5 to 9 by building the first platform in peg 7. Frank and a guest spent Monday morning making the peg fishable again and improving the access by renewing the steps. The wooden base was put together at home and after realising the weight enlisted H. and his van to transport it to Fladbury. H. dropped it at the bottom of peg 7 the day before jetting off to Spain, thanks mate. Pegs 5 to 9 do have a perennial problem with silt where the bank appears to drop back with shallows, debris and reeds in front of you, wading in these pegs is a must. Some years are worse than others, it's a transient situation and platforms are seen as the permanent solution. Peg 5 next, possibly others later, the materials are available we just need to get on with it. If you have a spare half a day let us know.

Bank Clearing - August session.

Just a reminder that the final bank clearing session Saturday 6th August is imminent. If you can't make that date but are available, you could help any time around that date or on an evening. Please let the committee know your plans so that we can monitor progress. We know that after all that work in May and June by the July 9th match the foliage had returned, on some pegs nearly a metre high. So a bit of weeding required, should'nt be too strenuous. If you do help, please be careful.

Update to Girling A.S. Match Fishing week - September 2017.

The plan is to travel down Monday and start the match late, three further daily matches, then Friday check out of the accommodation fish the final match and return home.

Just heard that the "Laburnham House Lodge Hotel" in Highbridge  situated near to the River Huntspill is another option.  They have Holiday Homes and Rooms available and a quick quote was "approx. £35 per night".

There will be more information at the next AGM and with enough interest we need to reserve the accommodation and decide the match venues early so let the committee know if you’re interested

Girling A/S Match Fishing Get-Together 2017 - Natural Venues.

Like to float the idea of a few days away together match fishing in 2017. The idea is to fish five low cost matches (Monday to Friday) on natural venues and maybe some refreshment on the evening.

It has been suggested that the Somerset drains and rivers provides ample choice of natural venues. Five matches on different natural venues each day.

Two 6 bed Cottages are available at Othery (TA7 0QA) Monday the 18/9/2017 at a cost of £290 each for four nights, that's less than £50 each although four per cottage may be preferable at £72.50 each or you may decide to find your own accommodation.

Please let the committee know if you interested.

Alan Vickery July 2016

Heard that Alan has been having dizzy spells and for the foreseeable future will not be joining us on the bank. Get well soon mate, hope you’re improving and see you on the bank when you are feeling better!

June flooding

Another June Fladbury match transferred due to a rising river, frustrating after all that work on the pegs. Looking back over the results June washouts are becoming a seasonal certainty. Let's hope July and August allow us to get on the River.

Sunday 5th June

Frank had been down in the week and sorted peg 22 and 24 where the floods had taken away the first staging and also shifted flood debris from pegs 18 and 19. Pete got rid of the tree across peg 10. Peg 24 was particularly bad because the first staging was missing and under water, lots of rubble later it's fishable but still requires further work.

Four members turned out for the Sunday session. Pete and Dave built a platform in peg 2, necessary because LANT had destroyed the peg in the process of removing a boat with a digger, Frank and John put more rubble in peg 24 and repaired the first staging in pegs 17. After this Sunday session all of the pegs are fishable thanks to Pete, Dave Frank, John, Brian, Derek and H, thanks guys but that's the good news, more than half of the pegs have dodgy or no steps, there's still lots to be done.

28th May

Heard that one of our members moved four foot of winter flood debris from peg 18 which is now floating down the Avon.

Also heard that we have two new Associate members, that's five Full members and two Associate members joined this year.

28th May

Had a bit of a disaster in peg two. There has been a boat beeched between pegs one and two for several months. At the first bank clearing day we discovered that peg two has been obliterated by a LANT digger and the ground slightly upstream of peg two as been levelled almost to the height of the river and will certainly flood in the winter. We have decided to put a platform in starting Sunday 5th June (next bank clearing day).

23rd May - Progress with Bank Clearing.

After the first weekend of bank clearing heard that five members attended Saturday and one Sunday, hats off to Brian and Derek who strimmed all of the pegs The winter floods have left us with even more work than anticipated and it will take an enormous amount of effort to be ready for the start of the season, the next planned bank clearing date is Sunday June 5th. If your able to help you don't have to adhere to these dates, anytime you can make it before the start of the season is fine but be careful, please let the Secretary know you are going to monitor progress. Clearly there's lots to be done before we can hold matches and let the venue to other clubs.

16th May - Bank Clearing.

Just a reminder that the Bank clearing starts next weekend. The dates are Saturday 21st May and Sunday 5th June. Some of the guys are planning to fish Saturday and have a go Sunday 22nd May. By then the strimming should be largely complete and the task at hand will be to clear down the steps with a shovel. You don't have to be there all day, you can complete a peg (or two) and have a beer on the way home. We have to get this completed by 16th June, plenty of time. All help is appreciated and be careful. Tell the Secretary before you go so the committee are aware of progress, thanks.

11th May - May Committee Meeting, some News

The first point worth passing on is the decision to utilise the two free dates in January 2017.  If you remember we changed the Winter League this season to have the series within the calendar year where we used to run into January of next season as a result there are no planned matches for January 2017. The decision is to increase the Silver Fish League from 3 to 5 matches in 2017, venue suggestions welcomed. As a result of this the Silverfish League, The Winter League and the Spring League are now all now a 5 match series starting in 2017.

As we now have three series of five matches we have decided to allow you to drop your worst result i.e. four out of five (20%) count for SL, SFL and WL in 2017. This is in line with the Aggregate where we currently drop two in ten matches (20%).

Another point that came out of the meeting is that we have only received six completed forms with match venue suggestions for the 2017 season. This is your chance to choose venues for the following season, it's not too late. We want suggestions for 5x BAA venues, 5x Carp venues, 5x Silver Fish venues, forms are available. We need your suggestions for September 2016, that's when we decide and book the 2017 matches.

Finally, as mentioned earlier, two of our older members were caught without Rod Licenses recently. These instances may be innocent mistakes however the Secretary now plans to ask them to produce licences at the next match (TBF Top Pool). In addition there will be annual BAA Card and Rod License checks at their respective renewal dates.
